#SocialDistancing – is that a reality without harm?

The entire world and India fighting against an invisible monster in the name of COVID-19 alias Corona. Earlier, Corona means to me call for celebration in form of a famous beer. Not the case any more.

Both the government at the central and state take efforts to control the outbreak of the virus. But, the number of positive cases increasing every day and it seem to match the growth graph of Italy and China – the two countries affected a lot in all ways possible.

There is no clear method of cure. Only way is to be precautious and prevent getting infected and the spread – this is message is sound and clear from the government.

When it comes to precaution and preventive measures. Majorly two things out of which one has given the incidental opportunity to increase the cost of Sanitisers – which normal no one buy much.

1. Frequent hand washing – either using soap and water minimum for 20 seconds or rub hands with alcohol based sanitizer.

2. Maintain Social Distancing – while there are so many articles on this fancy topic. Major chunk of this idea – Stay home, avoid crowded places and don’t touch each other.

I wanted to share the possibility of having social distancing in today’s setup by people of all age and background. While the three chunk sounds easy and simple but way difficult when it comes to practicality.

Right now, in Tamilnadu all eduction institutions, commercial places are closed while most companies asked their employees to WFH. This is just one part of people.

The another part, who work on daily earnings and wages cannot really make their living through WFH. To this group, the major mode of transportation is the public modes.

The government hasn’t done anything on public transportation in TN. Which means this group of people travel together and social distancing is something they cannot do. Please just don’t go with few pictures on Twitter with 5 passengers alone in the bus. That’s not the reality.

Only way to make sure social distancing is happening and being followed to the maximum extend is not by repeatedly talking about it – changing behaviour of people isn’t a easy task.

By cutting down all the public mode of transportation we could increase the social distancing since many cannot afford to travel. If that happens, then people who make their living on daily basis will suffer seriously – thar is equivalent to a #lockdown.

All the beaches in Chennai are closed for public until further notice. It is a great step to make sure group gatherings are not happening. But, on the other side minimum 500+ families who made their living everyday by selling things on the beach has to suffer badly :(

It is a hard call to take between what is right and what is the good!!

With all these things in my mind I am not able to see the possibility of people following #SocialDistancing with out getting harmed?

I have written this to start a dialogue around this topic. So please share your thoughts and opinions.
