Public problems – Ignore or Act – Make the right choice.

Little drops of water makes the mighty ocean.

Few weeks back I went to my native. I have noticed something I always ignored so far in my 25+ years of stay in my village. Found out that a valve attached to the village water tank is continuously leaking water. I am sure it was like that atleast for the last 5 years.

Thanks to my present role in Reap Benefit It had taught me very well the need of taking action for problems in my locality.

If you don’t care then government won’t care too.

Instead me fixing the problem directly wanted to make youth to realise the need of solving it. I reached out two of my neighbour college students and asked them to solve it.

Initially, they told its a very small amount of water that is getting wasted. I made them to calculate the flow rate of the leaking valve using,

  1. Water bottle
  2. Stop watch

1 litre of bottle took about 1min 50sec. So in 1 hr/60 min about 30 litres. The valve will be open for 4 hours a day. This will end up a wastage of 120 litres of water in a day.

In a month, it will be 3600 litres.

In a year, it will be 43,200 litres of water getting wasted.

Upon seeing this number, they agreed it is a huge problem of water wastage and took ownership to get it fixed.

Question for you: Do you still want to ignore problems around you? What problem are you solving today?
