Here is how I will caste VOTE & ELECT my Local governance
A perfect example of Sterotype: Local body elections 2019.
Elections for the positions of Panchayat leader, Ward Member and Councilor’s of non-corporation managed places of Tamilnadu will be held in two phases on Dec 27 and 30. This does not include cities with Corporation like Chennai, Tiruppur, etc.,
This election is long awaited from 2016 due to one reason or the other it kept delayed. So, after turning 18, I actually had the opportunity to vote once but I decided to skip – I was strongly influenced by the thought process that it’s not as important as CM and PM elections. I have inherited this kind of thought from people around me.
After my recent association with Reap Benefit working towards the vision of making action-based citizen champions in every locality. I have understood the power and need of these active participation in these elections are very important.
All these years due to delayed elections people of my panchayat found it difficult to avail some of their very basic needs. Having voted alone in CM and PM elections didn’t help.
Democracy works bottom-up and we elect MLA who will them have a voice in forming state government and state will influence in the formation of Central.
Is this really happening? Take a minute to think.
No. Definitely it’s not. Do you know why?
How many of you have voted for the party blindly without even knowing who your candidate and his political track record? As a result, it is becoming top-down which is very dangerous for the democracy.
This has to be changed because atleast at local level where we all live we should have a say and need people who could listen to us.
Here is how I want to decide my vote in local bodies election this time:
- “Penalty for not participating in government is to be governed by your inferiors”.
- * I will remember Democracy needs to work Bottom- UP.
- * I will vote for the candidate not blindly to the party or the leader.
- * I will avoid being influenced by my friends and family.
- * I will not biased towards any of the candidates.
- * I will not take money and if I do. Directly or indirectly encouraging expectation of money to avail services when the person gets elected.
- * I will remember if I didn’t caste my vote I am aiding people/things that I didn’t like.
